The members of the 5G-HUB project meet on December 3-4, 2024 in Siena (and via telco) for the kick-off meeting of the project. This meeting was the opportunity to get key updates on the GOVSATCOM programme by EUSPA (European Union Agency for the Space Programme, https://www.euspa.europa.eu/). GOVSATCOM is the next big thing of the EU: it will federate different EU satellite systems managed by the GOVSATCOM-HUB (G-HUB). Every member state will nominate the CGA (Competent Govsatcom Authority) organization that will be entitled to access the G-HUB to request satellite capacity for different GOVSATCOM needs (e.g., emergency and crisis management). The G-HUB is expected to be operative by 2027. The IRIS2 system, as part of GOVSATCOM, will be connected to the G-HUB and will have both commercial and governmental missions.
